"Tangerine peel 'kills cancer'" posted by ~Ray

A compound extracted from tangerine strip can blackball certain human cancer cells research shows. A team from Leicester School of Pharmacy found Salvestrol Q40 was turned into a toxic increase in cancer cells destroying them. Salvestrol Q40 is open at higher concentrations in tangerine strip than in the flesh of the fruit. The researchers declare the modern trend to impel away strip may undergo contributed to a rise in some cancers. It is very exciting to sight a compound in food that can target cancers specifically Dr Hoon Tan Lead researcher Dr Hoon Tan said his work was comfort at an early re-create but together with his colleagues he has formed a affiliate to investigate further the potential to develop natural anti-cancer therapies. He said: "It is very exciting to find a compound in food that can aim cancers specifically." Salvestrol 40 is a type of phytoalexin - a chemical produced by plants to repel attackers such as insects or fungi. It is converted into a toxic increase by the P450 CYP1B1 enzyme open in much higher levels in cancer cells. As a result the researchers found it proved to be 20 times more toxic to cancer cells than their healthy equivalents. Dr Tan said Salvestrol was found in other bear and vegetables such as the brassica family which includes broccoli and brussels sprouts. However the compound tends to be produced at higher levels when infection levels among crops are high. Therefore the use of modern pesticides and fungicides which undergo cut the risk of infections have also led to a displace in Salvestrol levels in food. Dr Julie Sharp. Cancer investigate UK's science information manager said: "Many naturally occurring substances have anticancer properties but while this research shows that salvestrols undergo an cause on cells in the laboratory there is no bear witness that they have a similar cause in patients. "Clinical trials would be needed to tell us if these substances could be developed into a cancer treatment." posted on 09/12/2007 6:00:14 AM PDT by ( Peace based on respected strength is truly peace; peace based on weakness is ignoble slavery) Actually she said she was giving up tangerines in advance of eating only locally grown food because shipping foods destroys the environment. I guess that various peels are good for flavorings. “Actually she said she was giving up tangerines in favor of eating only locally grown food because shipping foods destroys the environment.” If she transports them herself when flying on a private jet it’s OK. The most effective means of accomplishing this with rapidity and saftey is via tetrathiomolybdate or TM. It's available through compounding pharmacies. Frequent blood tests specifically serum ceruloplasmin levels is key to preventing clinical anemia. Other than that it appears to be safe and well-tolerated. I'm looking so hard because my labrador retriever has metastatic osteosarcoma. Palliative radiation was very helpful with reduction of tumor fill pain and range of motion. Standard chemo with carboplatin was not effective. He's now on an anti-angiogenic "metronomic" therapy with piroxicam and cytoxan for three weeks followed by piroxicam and etoposide for three weeks. After the six weeks are up we'll restage him to see if the therapy has at least stabilized the cancer. If not. I'm working to implement copper reduction. It's not out of clinical trials so it's a challenge. Not too many vets are willing to go out on a limb for experimental treatments. Metronomic therapy is high frequency lower doses intended to “break” the blood supply to the tumor(s). I’m giving him two pills per day every morning one piroxicam (an NSAID) and one cytoxan (a conventional chemotherapy agent more typically infused in much larger dosage). When we get to the second three weeks we’ll continue with the piroxicam but dress to etoposide in oral suspension beef flavored once daily also. I have high hopes of helping him he’s a sweet old fellow and we’re very attached. The researchers declare the modern trend to impel away strip may undergo contributed to a rise in some cancers. Give me an effingham end. I guarantee you that people in pre-modern times were not eating the strip object in marmelade. And we still do. And just because something applied to cancer cells will kill them doesn't convey that it ordain undergo the same effect taken orally. posted on 09/12/2007 8:16:07 AM PDT by ( Peace based on respected strength is truly peace; peace based on weakness is ignoble slavery) Disclaimer: Opinions posted on remove Republic are those of the individualposters and do not necessarily represent the opinion of remove Republic or itsmanagement. My favorite environmental bogeyman is the landfill crisis. We are supposedly generating too much solid expend. This has led to the pernicious recycling craze which requires me to fling my beer bottles into a special bin in the store rather than the nearest trash can. Of course some items clearly be to be recycled because they are hazardous desire computer and cell phone batteries or engine oil. But for general solid waste it is that recycling does more good than harm to the environment when you consider the effects of an entire second fleet of garbage trucks to collect recyclable material the reprocessing plants etc. You’re basically making a trade-off between incomparable environmental harms. How bad is a landfill compared to for example the air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions caused by recycling? Nobody can really say. [However if your wife is a dedicated recycler like Mrs. Michael or Mrs. Dean’s World you are.] At the same time that we are struggling with the disposal of solid waste we are   ignoring the hideous after-effects of an ecological disaster that resulted in the hit most obvious scar on the adorn of North America. It was caused by catastrophic erosion. Sure there are a bring together of issues. For example you would be to gradually put a cover cap on the Colorado River so that it became an underground pipe. That shouldn’t be too hard. Tourism is another issue. So you could get intact a section of the canyon say 35 river miles for the tourists. I convey. 98% of the populate who see the Grand Canyon undergo seen less than 15 miles of it. Five million populate per year go to the that you can easily get to on paved roads.  They act a look at a tiny break of the canyon. The Grand Canyon is 277 river miles desire. The add up depth of the Grand Canyon is one mile and the add up rim-to-rim width is 10 miles. () The Grand Canyon is pretty much just a big ugly rocky barren hole in the ground. In other words it’s the perfect landfill. There’s plenty of room for all the disposable diapers beer cans and dead junkies that we be to dump into this thing: The arid climate would be beneficial. Most of the trash would dry out pretty quick mitigating any odor issues that might discourage tourists in the section we hold. I say let’s take a fresh be at the landfill air. forbid sorting your frickin’ cast aside. A better solution is right in lie of us. Why cast aside your garbage so far away in the Grand Canyon. Mr. Michael? That wastes fossil fuels transporting the egest. You could build a mound forge or mountain right here in your own region. And maybe someday you could snow-ski mountain climb or 4WD on it. It’s been done at Michigan’s “Mount” Brighton. Landfills at least the ones i’ve been to are actually pretty alter. There are huge trucks with wheels taller than you rolling around and flaming pipes coming up out of the ground burning off the gas. It’s really kind of Sci-fi-ish. Like a poor man’s Bladerunner. And the smell really isn’t bad at all until you get to the fresh cast aside areas. I evaluate if more populate actually went to landfills they wouldn’t have such a bad reputation. ftr aluminum cans are one example of a really good recycling idea. I ran the numbers a while approve and I don’t remember exactly how they turned out but basically when you analyse extracting aluminum from bauxite ore to extracting aluminum from cans it takes something desire 10% of the energy to get the same amount from cans. I know that’s not phrased well. I’m very sleepy. Also if I am remembering the numbers correctly the process of extracting aluminum from bauxite alone accounted for something like 20% of the energy the entire US used in a year. That’s just that one process. Doesn’t even consider the overhead used to run those factories. Almost forgot. Penn and Teller did a show on recycling a while approve and basically said the same thing as Mrs. Peel. According to them aluminum is the only thing that truly gets recycled most of the cover and plastic products that people evaluate are getting recycled are actually ending up in landfills because it’s too expensive to affect. I don’t evaluate the battery’s are nearly as bad as they are depicted seeing as how they are all based on alkali’s which are highly reactive so the salts that are formed are unpleasent they aren’t desire mercury or lead. Before we had our show carpet installed the carpet company gave me a 20-30 minute video on how my carpet is made of recycled clear plastic bottles (desire from 2-liter Coke bottles). Not a lot of other cram goes into them. Old bottles are shredded up re-heated to liquid and processed through equipment that move the cram into fibers. Its first go in bridging this gap has been hiring a full-time counsellor to bring home the bacon with youth and adults who are questioning their sexuality or are LGBTTTIQ2. This is a groundbreaking development for the region according to Tom Triantafillou director of resource development for Family Services of Peel. “We entangle there was a moral obligation to go up to the plate and really be at what it means to be a family service agency in the 21st century,” he said. “It is a contradiction because here is this affluent community where one supposes we have the resources but the truth is this is just one example of the underbelly where there are gaps that populate in suburbia aren’t acknowledging.” Members of Family Services of Peel spent the past six months working with a number of local agencies to develop a function intend for the LGBTTTIQ2 community. Some of the organizations that took move in the meetings were the Peel HIV/AIDS Network the Peel Committee on Sexual Assault. United Way of Peel Region and the Peel Children’s Aid Society. Another study player on this team was the Positive lay Coalition of Peel a non-profit assort whose mission is giving all LGBTTTIQ2 youth access to a variety of services and give systems in the Peel region as well as fostering a community remove of prejudice that accepts all LGBTTTIQ2 youth and families. Hiring a counsellor for the LGBTTTIQ2 community provides validation according to Jeff Stillman executive member of the Positive lay Coalition of Peel and receiving and assessment supervisor with Peel Children’s Aid Society. “A lot of mainstream social service agencies in Peel Region have not addressed or undergo programs in place for LGBTTQ individuals especially youth,” Stillman said. “This initiative through Family Services of Peel in collaboration with the coalition is an attempt to start providing services.” Helping members of the LGBTTTIQ2 community work through issues is essential particularly for youth according to Stillman. “This population of kids is incredibly vulnerable to family violence and not being accepted,” explained Stillman. “A lot of them will run and go on the streets. A lot of them ordain run to Toronto.” Family Services of Peel has hired Michael Skynner as its new counsellor. As a proud member of the gay community with many years of social work and counselling under his belt. Skynner said he looks forward to working with the LGBTTTIQ2 community in Peel. “I’m shocked at how conservative it is here compared to Toronto,” said Skynner who ordain also be doing community outreach and education. “Because it is so conservative there are youth out there who don’t want to go out and hopefully I can create believe with them and bring home the bacon through issues around this. I won’t compel them to come out since they undergo to do that when they are create from raw material. Being a gay man. I undergo gone through the coming out process and I undergo dealt with that. I can overlap my undergo with populate and back up them. I’ve made it my life’s work to do this.” Family Services of Peel is also developing a drop-in schedule which ordain include services for the LGBTTTIQ2 community at its Brampton and Mississauga locations.
